    What is Cheerabilities?

Cheerabilities is Las Vegas All Stars' adaptive cheerleading program designed for athletes with special needs. Whether your child has Down syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy, or other developmental differences, Cheerabilities provides a safe, inclusive environment where every athlete can succeed.

Why Cheerleading for Special Needs Athletes?

    Social-Emotional Benefits

    • Confidence building: Success in achievable goals boosts self-esteem
    • Social interaction: Making friends with peers in a supportive environment
    • Communication skills: Following directions, taking turns, expressing needs
    • Emotional regulation: Managing excitement, disappointment, and teamwork

    Cognitive Development

    • Memory: Learning routines and sequences
    • Following directions: Multi-step instructions in cheer activities
    • Problem-solving: Figuring out movements and positions
    • Focus and attention: Sustained engagement during class

    Program Structure

    Class Format

    • Duration: 45-minute classes (shorter attention span accommodations available)
    • Frequency: Once weekly, with options for additional sessions
    • Class size: Small groups (6-8 athletes) for individualized attention
    • Staffing: 1:3 coach-to-athlete ratio minimum

    What We Do in Class

    1. Warm-up (10 minutes): Gentle stretching, simple movements, music
    2. Skills rotation (20 minutes):
      • Basic tumbling (rolls, jumps, bridges)
      • Arm motions and cheer moves
      • Dance and choreography
    3. Routine practice (10 minutes): Working on performance together
    4. Cool-down and closing (5 minutes): Stretching, high-fives, celebration

    Adaptive Coaching Approach

Our Cheerabilities coaches are trained in adaptive physical education and special needs support:

    Individualized Modifications

    • Visual supports (picture schedules, demonstration)
    • Auditory supports (clear, simple language; verbal prompts)
    • Physical supports (hand-over-hand guidance when needed)
    • Sensory accommodations (quiet space available, fidgets permitted)

    Positive Reinforcement

We celebrate every achievement, big or small. High-fives, stickers, verbal praise, and "Athlete of the Day" recognition keep motivation high.

    Performance Opportunities

Cheerabilities athletes have multiple chances to showcase their skills:

    • In-house showcases: 2-3 per year for family and friends
    • Community events: Special Olympics, awareness events, parades
    • LVA performances: Performing alongside other LVA teams at select competitions
    • Video performances: For families who prefer recorded over live performances

Note: Performance is encouraged but never required. Some athletes prefer to participate in class only.
